Duke's Wharf achieves planning permission
Feilden+Mawson are very happy to announce that the Duke’s Wharf project has, subject to formal sign off, been awarded planning permission by Norwich City Council.
Appointed by Targetfollow, Feilden+Mawson were commissioned to design a 250K sq ft new commercial quarter for a sensitive site in Norwich’s conservation area. This mixed use development includes: offices, restaurants, high end residential units, art gallery and public realm.
Valued at £37m, the project sits within a 2 acre site bounded by four very different neighbours who demanded careful architectural responses regarding on-site activities and scale.
From the outset, and in addition to the planners, the team formed close relationships with stakeholders and site neighbours to maximise the opportunity for support and, hopefully, a sense of pride in those helping to inform the process.
In the planning officer’s report to the planning committee, English Heritage are quoted as saying that "Duke’s Wharf has the potential to set a benchmark for future large schemes in the city".
It is believed by the client and team that the architecture that has emerged is both exciting and dignified and should stand the test of time through its form, environmental message and materials chosen.
Targetfollow will move its headquarters into the building in due course and it is understood that Duke’s Wharf is attracting some big company names to the development.
