Green Park Canopy submitted for planning
F+M and Capita Architecture have submitted a new canopy design for London's Green Park Station, to Westminster City Council, on behalf of London Underground. The scheme will form a modest, but distinctive new landmark to Piccadilly, displaying the London Underground roundels and providing shelter, seating and travel information for passengers. Taking account of previous consultations, this simple, contemporary design incorporates the following principles:
Shelter for passengers, particularly those with impaired mobility
Integration of new facilities and future provision for bike parking
Respect for the local historical fabric and context
The project sponsor has encouraged the involvement of Art on the Underground (AOU) as curators, devising a strategy for public art which builds on the masterplan for step-free access to Piccadilly and Green Park. The AOU art strategy will offer an excellent opportunity for distinguished artists to collaborate with the design team, bringing a greater coherence to this busy corner of the West End.
