Nene Waterfront Port Authority Offices
Procured competitively, Feilden+Mawson were commissioned to design what has been called an iconic flagship building, the first development of the £50m Nene Waterfront Regeneration Project at Wisbech.
The 1,600sqm building is a direct response for a request by knowledge–based businesses for accommodation in the centre of Wisbech. Situated on the banks of the River Nene, the centre also provides accommodation for the Harbour Master’s office and facilities for the yachts moored on its banks adjacent, along with conference suites and a cafe.
Named the Boathouse, it is located at the end of a new pedestrian promenade and is open to the public. It has been designed to act a natural stopping point for pedestrians and with sustainability at its heart.
Design Partner, Philip Bodie, says ‘It was important to the Client and Feilden+Mawson that the building should be designed from its concept with sustainability in mind and should provide an exemplar way in which a Mixed Mode system can fulfil best practice for providing comfort control whilst saving energy.’
The Boathouse seeks to reflect best practice in energy conservation and BREEAM standards, including natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting, high levels of natural daylight and solar control.
