F+M staff visit completed UK Supreme Court
Feilden+Mawson's staff members (pictured) visited the new United Kingdom Supreme Court (UKSC). Completed within time and budget limits, UKSC represents a significant achievement for the practice.Quoted in The Times, Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, President-Elect of UKSC stated that:
"Cleaning the (building's) stone inside and out has revealed pleasing architectural details and carving…A lot of trouble has gone into designing the carpets, curtains and furniture that will adorn the interior…the architects (Feilden & Mawson( deserve credit".Lord Phillips said that the F+M designs for UKSC "…combine a lightness of touch and contemporary gravitas sensitive to the existing architecture and appropriate to the status and function of the new UK supreme court".
He also added that F+M have "…assembled a team of consultants and advisers for the specialist areas of art, lighting, landscape, furniture and acoustics with the aim of creating an integrated, holistic approach to architecture, art, design and landscape." The building is now being fitted out in preparation for the opening in October 2009.
