Manchester Square buildings completed for the Portman Estate
Feilden+Mawson were commissioned by the Portman Estate in 2005 to redevelop and refurbish three townhouses and four mews properties on Manchester Square - a unique Georgian square in the centre of London. Nos 10 and 11 were refurbished with a sensitive design which incorporated the reinstatement of Georgian details where lost, alongside a subtle contemporary language on the new additions.
With utilities and services housed in a new rear extension, both buildings were refurbished to maximise space, visual connectivity between rooms and natural light. The design for No 12 juxtaposes the language of existing historic against minimal contemporary by the creation of a two storey glazed atrium space which links the restored Georgian town house to a modern rear extension.
Nos 15 and 16 Seymour Mews had their dividing party wall removed and were opened up to create a modern studio office space with timber strip flooring and a new butterfly roof.
