A successful 2014 for Elsie Owusu

Feilden+Mawson would like to congratulate Partner Elsie Owusu for winning Africa Business Woman of the Year 2014. Elsie has wide-ranging expertise in urban planning, transport and infrastructure and climate change, completing designs for public transport systems in Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana amongst others. Many of the projects are promoted by JustGhana Ltd, a UK company of which Elsie is a director. Looking forward to next year, Elsie has also been nominated as an RIBA role model. The role models will be announced in Spring 2015.

Academy House starts on site

Academy House is a new, five storey development near to the centre of Cambridge, comprising two lower levels of car park with three levels of high spec offices over, linking through to an existing building at 2nd floor level. The site has proven to be a challenging one, bordered on all sides by Hills Road, Cambridge City Council's new guided bus route, an adjoining building and a high rise housing development. Since the original sketch schemes were tabled in 2008 the project is now on site and due for completion in summer 2015.

Lake Cabin nominated for European award

Feilden+Mawson's Lake Cabin in Doksy, Czech Republic has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2015. By highlighting excellent architectural works that have been constructed over the last two years, the prize draws attention to the contribution of European professionals in the development of new ideas and technologies, and the cultural importance of architecture in the construction of our cities. We are delighted to have been nominated and look forward to hearing the results in due course.

Whisstocks receives funding

Feilden+Mawson is delighted to announce that their scheme for Whisstocks Boatyard, Woodbridge has received funding and is proceeding. The site is located in a very sensitive part of Woodbridge, adjacent to the Grade I listed Tide Mill and in the River Deben Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The proposal will create a new public realm of distinctive and expressive architectural form and appearance which will make a positive contribution to the area and conservation area. The project is due to start on site in 2015.

Feilden+Mawson education projects

We are working on site at John Ray Infant School, Braintree, a new build infant school which will allow the staff and pupils to move from their current, temporary school. We are busy in Chelmsford, having submitted a planning application for extensions to Moulsham Infant and Junior Schools. The extensions provide expansion to teaching spaces to meet the county's educational targets. Both schemes have required careful attention to costs and programme. We continue to work on the SMARTE East Framework delivering new schools and improved facilities for Essex County Council.

Red Rose Chain new studio theatre opens

We are pleased to announce the opening of the Red Rose Chain's new studio theatre 'The Avenue', marking four years of planning and construction work at Gippeswyk Hall in Ipswich. The Avenue Theatre is funded by a £1 million grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund, to rejuvenate and give new purpose to Gippeswyk Hall, a Grade II* listed Tudor building steeped in local history. Other funders include Viridor, Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council. The building was designed by Nicholas Jacob Architects in collaboration with Feilden+Mawson Partner, Charles Curry-Hyde.

MIPIM 2015

In March 2015 Feilden+Mawson Partner, Charles Curry-Hyde, will be undertaking a 1450km fund raising ride from London to MIPIM, Cannes, for Corum, the Children's' Charity, Article 25, Tom's Trust, Multiple System Atrophy Trust and Emthonjeni Trust. Your support and donations would be greatly appreciated: Charles Curry-Hyde's fundraising page Feilden+Mawson will be exhibiting on the London Stand at MIPIM, so if you are attending we look forward to seeing you there.

Charity Round Up 2014

In lieu of Christmas cards, Feilden+Mawson is supporting the following charities; St Mungo's, EACH and GateHouse. Earlier in September 23 riders from Feilden+Mawson took part in a sponsored, 75 mile bike ride from Cambridge to Norwich which raised £1000 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. We would like to thank all those who supported and took part.

Feilden+Mawson will be taking festive break from 2pm on 24th December 2014 and re-open at 9am on January 5th 2015. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
