52 Gloucester Place

Feilden+Mawson were commissioned as Architects and Lead Consultants for the refurbishment of 52 Gloucester Place as some 10,000 sq ft of commercial office space. Built in the 1780s, this Grade II listed Georgian property is 4 bays wide and 5 storeys tall, including the lower ground floor, and is one of the finest townhouses on the Portman Estate. The works carried out included the restoration of the internal historic features, the reconstruction of two wrought iron rear balconies, the rebuilding of the rear extension which was in a state of collapse, re-roofing, and a full upgrade of services, comprising CAT5 cabling, comfort cooling and insertion of a lift.

F+M complimented the historic setting with the design of contemporary WCs, shower rooms and kitchens, as well as the commissioning of two purpose-made chandeliers.

The building is one of many in a wider scheme of initiatives for the development of Gloucester Place currently being carried out by Feilden+Mawson for the Portman Estate. The project was shortlisted by the RICS for a conservation award in 2013.
