Congham Hall Hotel

Feilden+Mawson secured detailed planning permission for the expansion of this highly successful and well-respected Norfolk country house hotel and spa.

The parkland and garden setting of the hotel is a key part of its offer to guests, so preserving the landscape character of the site was the primary concern of the development proposal.

A new spa building, 9 hotel-room cabins and 11 self-catering cottages are threaded into pockets of space around the hotel’s well-known herb garden orchard and parkland, each element responding architecturally to its immediate surroundings. Extensions to the existing pool building, plus new car parking, staff facilities and storage areas, support the new facilities.

The development has been planned around existing trees, and accommodates existing populations of bats and great crested newts. Detailed proposals for the landscaped areas accompanied the planning application, to demonstrate the importance placed on this aspect of the project by the client.

Detail Design is underway and construction due to commence early 2019, with a phased construction programme tailored to maximise the trading potential of the hotel during expansion.
