The Mo, Sheringham

Having successfully completed the first phase of the Sheringham Lifeboat museum, known as the ‘Mo’, Feilden+Mawson were subsequently invited to complete phase 2.

Phase 1 took a redundant Anglia Water pumping station and converted it into a new visitor attraction for the seaside town.

Following the success of the ‘Mo’, our client wished to expand and extend the facility to provide new exhibition, teaching, archive and storage space. The museum’s latest acquisition, the Atlantic 75 ‘Manchester Unity of Oddfellows’ now has its own room. To achieve this, the work involved extensive remodelling of the building, its toilets and the addition of a second floor and seaward viewing gallery.

Special care and attention to the detailing was required due to the close proximity to the North Sea.

Funding was made possible for both phases by HLF bids.
