Access
The renovated Guildhall will feel more
welcoming to visitors. Public areas such as a cafeteria and exhibition space will be provided.
The renovation will also improve equal access to the building:
- Entrance ways and internal circulation
spaces will be altered to be more
accessible.
- Spaces will contain less clutter.
- The restoration of original architectural
features, such as the two light wells, will
restore coherence to navigation around the building.
- An additional lift shaft will be formed in the south-west corner of the corridor system giving those who cannot or choose not to use the stairs greater access to the court rooms.
The entrance to the Supreme Court will be fully accessible to court users and visitors. The bust of King Edward VII and the war memorials, currently in the entrance way, will remain in the building while some items will be moved to suitable locations.
