St James Quay, Norwich

Feilden+Mawson secured detailed planning permission for the residential redevelopment of a long-derelict site at Barrack Street in Norwich, for Cambridge-based developer Hill.

The scheme will provide 220 new homes in a mixture of townhouses and flats, whilst creating a new public access between Barrack Street and the river, and an attractive landscaped setting for standing remains of the mediaeval city wall that run across the middle of the site.

A pair of listed workers’ cottages on the Barrack Street frontage will be refurbished, and the listed St James Mill immediately west of the site completes will provide a new improved home for the Jarrold collection of historic printing equipment. Phase 1 is complete, with Phase 2 currently on site and due for completion in 2023.
